I remember first encountering those motivational posters. You know the ones— black background, beautiful photograph, startlingly obnoxious "motivational" text? It was 1998. I had just gotten a new job and the office was decorated at random with these pieces of crap, and I was struck by just how attractively they managed to be condescending, and in some cases insulting. (Fairness dictates that I admit that some of them I've seen are actually pretty cool, but those are exceptions to the rule.)
I'm not the only one who feels this way about these motivational posters, either. All over the web, you can find mock motivational posters. Some, such as those by Despair, Inc., are actually produced comercially. I had always entertained the notion of creating my own parody motivational posters. The problem is, I'm not a graphics person. Oh, I have the aesthetics, just not the technical know-how. I do content rather than presentation.
Then I found a web app that generates the necessary graphics for you; all you have to do is supply the photo and the text. It is here, and it makes me happy. Hence, I am now able to present to you my very own motivational posters. I hope you enjoy them.
Note: I borrow most of my images. If you see an image whose copyright you own, and you have a problem with my use of the image, send me an email and I'll take it down.
