No oriental fantasy setting would be complete without practitioners of the martial arts. The Toast Martial Arts system is provided for games that take place in oriental settings, or for characters that come from oriental settings.
Martial arts skills in Toast act as skill groupings. Just as each Weapon category skill covers the use of multiple weapons, a martial arts skill will encompass several different skills or techniques. A grouping of skills encompassed by a single martial arts skill is called a Style.
Each martial arts style consists of four sub-skills. The guidelines for sub-skill selection are explained in the table below.
| A Style Consists of... | Sub-Skill | Attributes | Description |
| At least two of these: | Blocks | AGI, HEC | The ability to block not only unarmed strikes but weapons as well. Any strike (other than an attempted throw or grapple) may be blocked; treat the roll as a contested task vs. the skill of the opponent. |
| Strikes | STR, AGI, WIL | The use of hands and/or feet to inflict damage on an opponent. All punches and kicks have a base damage of 2. | |
| Throws | STR, AGI | Various grappling and throwing techniques. May be used to throw people to the ground, break out of holds, counteract other throws, etc. | |
| No more than two of these: | Weapon | GM Discretion | Proficiency with a single weapon, usually one of the traditional exotic martial arts weapons, such as throwing star, kama, baton, nun-chaku, etc. Weapons traditionally used in both hands count as one sub-skill, not two. |
| Any number of these: | Acrobatics | As defined in Appendix A: Skill Lists. | |

| Dodge | |||
| Jumping | |||
| Meditation | |||
| Running | |||
The practice of a martial arts style is a wholistic mental and physical discipline. As a result, each sub-skill is based on all of the attributes used in the overall style.
Use of any of the sub-skills in a martial arts style constitutes a use of the overall skill. At the end of the session in which the style is used, the player makes a skill advancement roll for the martial arts style. If the skill advances, all sub-skill levels are increased.
